Modish Gathered Table Runner Tutorial

This Table Runner is really fun and classy and has just 9 simple steps. You just need 30 minutes and 2 half yard pieces of material.
If you have a sewing machine you should definitely give it a try!

You will need:
1/2 yard Burlap
1/2 yard Cotton material for the center.
Thread for your sewing machine.

Step 1
Cut 2 strips from your cotton.
1 14X42
1 14X25

Step 2
Wash and dry your 2 strips.

Step 3
Square up your 1/2 yard of burlap and pull threads on the edge to give you fray ends. (I also think a rolled three needle surge hem would look nice and give you a cleaner look.)
Step 4
Get your washed cotton strips and trim off all the strings that have unraveled in the wash.
Step 5
Sew your 2 strips together giving you 1 14 X 66 1/2 inch strip.
Step 6
Iron your strip. I used a very low temperature so that I could get the material flat but not take out the wrinkles from the wash.

Step 7
Pin down the cotton material to the burlap. The cotton is longer so you will need to find the center of each piece and and pin the centers. Next, pin the ends of the cotton piece to the burlap to form an even border. Pin the remainder of the center strip making sure that the gathering stays even.
Step 8
Sew down cotton to the burlap. My seam line was 1 1/2 inches from the edge of the cotton.

Step 9
Trim up any extra frays that you don't want.

Now you have a table runner!! If you would like to share when you finish we would love to see! thepolkadotumbrella@gmx.com
