Household Hint

The other day I was reading a recipe book, I can't remember which one it was now, but it had the best idea. I'm sure a lot of people have thought of this but it was pure genius to me! When you are browning hamburger and need to drain the excess grease do not pour it down the drain. This is obvious. I am often left looking for somewhere to put it. I hate pouring it in a mug because it is so gross to clean out. The book said to line a mug with foil before you pour in the grease. After the grease has cooled and solidified pull the foil out with the grease blob. The mug will be so much easier to clean and you won't clog your pipes!

That's so smart! We typically put ours in an empty can and keep it in the freezer, but sometimes I forget to keep a can on hand so then I'm stuck! But I always have foil and a mug. Thanks for sharing!

I put foil in a bowl bc I can then put my strainer over it and do the whole 'dump the meat into the strainer to drain the fat' thing. Then, when it dries, I can throw the fat away. I thought I was a genius when I figured this out. :)

When I was really little, my mom had this pottery honey pot. Before I was big enough to see over the top of it I would stick my fingers into it and lick off the honey. When it was no longer being used for honey she started using it for the fat. Only I didn't know it. Can you guess where this is going? Yep, one day I stuck my fingers in there and - yuck! Let's just say it cured me from ever sticking my fingers in stuff I couldn't see again!
