Getting Personal- Running

Canyonlands Half Marathon

I have been a bit busy just like you great Mom's out there. This post is a bit out of the box for this site but I thought I would share a little of what I have been working on un-craft related.

A year ago I had one of those moments I realized my exercising habits were not consistent with my goals of loosing weight after having my second baby. I thought, what is it that get's me the most tired in the least amount of time, because time was not on my side. "Running, definitely running." Since then I have actually caught the bug and am really enjoying running. I can't believe I just said that. I would have never thought it would happen. It wasn't fun at first and to tell the truth I teased and mocked the idea of paying to run when you can do it for free.

Slowly the miles and time are getting better and the leg pains aren't as bad.

Canyonlands Half Marathon
After just 7 months of running I ran in my first 5k on the 4th July. I ended in just over 32 minutes. I ran my second race, a 10K on Thanksgiving just five months later and finished in 62 minutes. In March I set out to run the hardest race yet, Canyonlands Half Marathon and finished the 13 mile route in 2h 25 minutes.
Now I am training for the Logan to Park City Utah Ragnar. I have heard quite a range of comments on the difficulty but also how much fun it is. I am definitely anticipating the event.

I am really writing this because I have realized just a glimpse of how much we can do if we push, set goals and provide a way that keeps us consistent. I had no idea how hard you can push yourself. Just over a year ago I was pushing to make my two mile run in the mornings and now I am pushing 4 miles in 35 minutes and running 13 miles on Saturdays. I am not saying this is a fantastic race time and I know I have a lot of room to improve. I am just saying in one year you can work hard and achieve hard things that you didn't know was possible.

Good luck to everyone with their goals this week. You can do hard things.
