April Fools Dirt! (For Salad)

I'm not sure where this picture is from. I found it through an image search on Yahoo.
There comes one day a year when I wish I had a faucet like this, and that day is April Fools. As a kid it never got old wrapping a rubber band around the sprayer. When an unsuspecting victim came to turn the sink on they would be sprayed. It makes me laugh out loud even now. Hmmm, my parents just remodeled their kitchen and my dad insisted on this kind of sprayer. I should sneak over and do it. If only I could guarantee he'd be the one to turn the sink on first.

I can't wait until my son is in school all day on April Fools. I think half day kindergarten is so dumb. It doesn't make sense to check him out early when he is only there for 2.5 hours just to play a joke on him. Mark my words, next year I will check him out to tell him he needs 3 shots at the doctors office, but take him to a movie or something fun instead.

Yes, I like to tease. I like to play jokes. I really like to hide so I can jump out and scare someone. I guess my entertainment comes at the expense of others!

This year I will torture feed my family with edible dirt.

Start with regular, pitted, black olives. I used about a cup. I think this would be enough for 4 or 5 salads.

You can put them in a food processor, use a food chopper or just chop them by hand. You want them to be pretty fine.

Layer two paper towels on a piece of cardboard, I used a shoe box lid. Spread the chopped olives in a circle on the paper towels.

Microwave on full power for 5 minutes.

Reduce power to half and microwave another 7-10 minutes. My microwave took the full 10.

Once they are dry, chop them one more time. I actually just crumbled them with my fingers. A lot of crumbs got under my fingernails, it was kind of gross. Olives are so much greasier than I ever thought! I have to say, once the olives are dry, they really feel and look like dirt.

Sprinkle them on a green salad for dinner. You can even have your yard tools in the kitchen for an added effect. If you're wondering how they taste...just like an olive.

What are you doing for April Fools? Any pranks planned?
