Birthday Blocks

In my cute little family there is a Birthday a month for the next four months. I thought I would make something up that would be good to put on the table during a Birthday week. For my little kids Birthdays are such a big deal so I try to make them as special as I can but also being simple as well.

All my letters are three inches tall. I used a 2x4 for all the wood blocks and a scrap flat board that was one inch thick. I sanded painted and glued craft paper to the front of them. I used vinyl lettering that sweet sister Meg cut out for me.

There are three parts to the Birthday Block decoration.

My bottom "Birthday" block is 3 1/2 X 17 1/4. Because craft paper only comes in 12x12 sheets the 'D' is  covering the division line where the two pieces meet.

"Happy" has all different size blocks but they are all the 3 1/2 wide from my 2X4. I used scraps so I had no rhyme or reason on choosing the sizes I did.

I used a jig saw to cut out the balloons. I painted them and added a drill hole in the bottom of the balloons and the top of the blocks a 1/4 inch thick. I used these holes to put my wooden dowels in, to hold the balloons up. My wooden dowels are; H- 4 inches, P- 2 inches, Y-3 inches long. I tied ribbon on them when they were finished drying.

Simple and fun!

Love it! Your kids will have such good memories of the birthday sign when they are older.
