Yard Work

When we moved into our house 2 and a half years ago the yard looked something like this.

I was stupid and never got before pictures, so I found one on google map.  Anyway, the grass in the whole front yard was apparently ripped out by the previous owners.   It doesn't look that bad here, but they just put down wood chips in the front yard without any underlay, and they also let the side yard become over run with weeds.  When we first moved in we were only able to salvage the back yard.  After a lot of fertilizer and weed and feed, the back yard is thriving.

Last October my husband and father in law got to work landscaping the front yard.  Once they started digging, it turned into a gravel pit.  There was so much garbage that was buried in our yard.  I don't know if you can tell from the picture, but our front yard was so steep.  They decided to landscape by cutting out part of the hill, and then constructing a rock wall.  Our awesome neighbor let us borrow his Bobcat, which helped so much.  Thanks!

This is after we laid down the new soil and it was all leveled out.  I love the rocks, I think they look gorgeous.  Now it was time to plant the grass seed.

We decided to go with planting seed instead of using sod.  It is a lot cheaper, you have to water it the same amount of time, and they both can't be mowed for 6 weeks.  The seed we used was the sport mix from Steve Reagan.  We watered 5 times a day at intervals of 10 minutes.  The picture above is at about two weeks.  See the faint green color?

Here is the grass at six weeks.  Of course we had to document the lawns first 'cutting'!  Are you ready for the unveiling?

There are still a few patches that need to grow in but I can't believe how thick it is already.  Don't you love my cute little puppy peeking her head out the front window?

Now all we need to do is plant some flowers below the window.  I have to say it is so nice to drive down the street and not be embarrassed about our weedy front yard.

How lovely is that! Beautiful setting for your lovely home--that grass is so green--my is burnt and crunchy right now from extreme heat. Great landscape!

That looks so good. Did you have a hard time with weeds since you used seed? I bet your neighbors love it too!
